Don't run two AV programs (or firewalls for that matter) they can seriously conflict. If your subscription is good on the Norton and your getting the updates you should be "good to go".

(it's AVG, there's also AVG Anti-spyware though)

but since your being diligent, I'll include this (it's prewritten):

I recommend CCleaner as well (just run it with default settings). It helps to run it before Anti-spyware scanners to get a better idea of what the real threat(s) are in the scan results. (CCleaner clears out the tracking cookies which would show up in the scans.)

Switch to advanced mode, to do so select 鈥渕ode鈥?from the toolbar and check 鈥淎dvanced Mode鈥? it will ask if you want to switch modes, say 鈥測es鈥? Now you have multiple tabs on the left of the screen, select the 鈥渟ettings鈥?tab then click on the 鈥淚gnore products鈥?icon. Under the first tab the first tab 鈥淎ll products鈥?right click your mouse in the main screen and select 鈥渄eselect all鈥?

Now click on the 鈥渢ools鈥?tab and click on the 鈥淚E Tweaks鈥?icon. Make sure that you check 鈥淟ock Hosts file read-only as protection against hijackers鈥?
