I tho rt agv anti-virus was free?

AVG Anti-Virus is free for PERSONAL use. That means if you use it at home on your home personal computer, then its free. If you use it at work in the office, then there are certain legal issues. You can download the free version at this link: http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390#avg-ant...

This link shows a comparison between the free and paid versions: http://www.grisoft.com/doc/download-free...

Note that as previous answers, there are paid versions of AVG that basically provide you with more support.

I've used McAfee, Norton, PC-Cilin, and AVG, individually and collectively over 10 PCs over the past 11 years. I am now using only AVG. Granted it doesn't always remove all the newest viruses the soonest, but give it a day or 2 and it will. Besides, all the anti-viruses are the same. Sometimes they get to resolve the latest virus first, sometimes they don't. Its always a race between who gets to resolve it first. Just so long as you know what you're doing when sending and receiving files, and when browsing the Internet to be careful which sites you're going to, you should be fine. Always always always scan unoriginal (translated as copied) discs or any data media before running and programs on them or opening any files from them. I've even found viruses in camera and mobile phone memory sticks in the past.
